Inspired by 18th century origami puzzle purses, these double sided love letters cleverly unfold to reveal a 19 stanza illustrated (and rather dramatic!) poem influenced by victorian valentine verse.
Traditionally, a lock of hair, pressed flower, or ring, would be revealed in the centre as the segments unfolded.
I became obsessed with these items when I first discovered them as a child, and after painstakingly working out the construction and hand painting some for presents I set about screenprinting some.
With 8 layers and 10 folds, these beautiful love tokens are finished with gold leaf.
Like a love letter or favourite book, these puzzle purses will 'age' overtime, gently wearing in the lovely way paper and ink does when it's constantly handled with care and affection.
